Training & adviceDon't worry if you don't think you have the experience when you start. Our ICT department offers help and advice to reach the required level of skill. They have various self-teach booklets and other study material to help you with your ICT skills studies and regular drop-in clinics where a tutor will be on hand to give you guidance and advice on various aspects of ICT Skills. Access on campusWith more than 1400 computers available for students on campus, plus 150 laptops which can be borrowed from the library, you will find getting onto a computer easy. There is also a Visual Impaired Support Lab available which enables our visually impaired and blind students to carry out their everyday computing tasks in an environment which caters for their specific hardware and software needs. Virtual learning environmentYou will be supported throughout the year by a dedicated and sophisticated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), the Blackboard online classroom, which facilitates a range of interactive learning activities via computer, either at home or at work. Through Blackboard you will have 24-hour access to module handbooks, assessment details, lecture slides, recommended further reading and links to sources enabling you to better manager the process of learning. My CaledonianThe My Caledonian portal offers students the chance to keep up to date with all new developments in and around the university as well as access to the student webmail system and Blackboard. Important information about your programme and/or module may also be posted on the portal, including access to class timetables and examination results online. |
Technology is vital in today's business environment and throughout your studies you will be using real-world applications to solve complex business problems. In order to achieve this every student will develop basic computer and technology skills including the use of many general applications such as word processing, email, internet and spreadsheets.
