Strategic and Policy Processes
The module evaluates various
processes using appropriate
frameworks to evaluate critically how
managers undertake internal and
external analyses to develop
informed decisions in public, private
and voluntary sector environments.
The Reflective People Manager
The aim of this module is to critique
and develop the concepts and skills
associated with managing yourself
and others within the workplace. It
provides a conceptual
understanding of contemporary
issues facing those involved in
people management and looks at
the skills required to successfully
manage people.
Managing Performance for Business Excellence
The module develops an
understanding of the external and
internal factors driving organisational
performance across the public,
private and voluntary sectors. It pays
particular attention to the challenge
of balancing efficiency, effectiveness
and equity/societal outcomes.
Management Techniques & Theories
This module examines the theories
underpinning management
techniques and forces students to
question the idea, assumptions and
findings associated with these
theories and techniques.
Implementation Challenges in Business and Public Management
The module examines the
complexities of managing and
implementing strategy and policy,
including the leadership of change
in public, private and voluntary
sector. It will evaluate current
approaches to management, policy
and delivery in the business and
public sectors.
Leading Change: Managing For Creativity
This module aims to challenge the
students’ conceptions of change
and to develop a deep appreciation
of its significance and complexity.
This involves closely examining
change in its various forms,
including the role played by the
individual. This process will consider
how creativity can lead to
transformational change.
Research Perspectives and Methods
From practical qualitative research
techniques to statistical analysis and
from theories of knowledge to
concepts of research design, the
essentials of undertaking a research
project are reviewed in a concise
manner, enabling students to
evaluate management research
and to plan and implement their
own programme of research.
International business: Institutions, Policy and Management
This module develops a critical
overview of globalisation. It
considers aspects of
internationalisation and the
implications of managing business
organisations in an increasingly
global environment.
International Management Project
This report will explore in a multicultural
context the programme’s
core theme of understanding,
responding to and leading change.
The subject matter may include an
examination of global
interpretations and evaluations of
research theories and their
application in multi-cultural
environments or an investigation of
the steps multi-nationals and other
organisations take to align strategies
and management practices to
different cultural settings.
