Support for students on their MBA comes in three areas of focus

Returning to study after an absence of several years?

Our MBA attracts students who are returning to study after an absence of several years. The MBA programme team have a strong history of  supporting students who may be unfamiliar or unused with “modern” University life and hence require particular guidance and support in starting on a demanding course on a part-time basis whilst holding down full-time (usually senior) jobs and with personal/family commitments on top.

Support for international students

Over the past few years the MBA programme team has developed a transition programme for international students which features a 5-day pre-course induction programme followed by structured on-going support throughout the academic year. The induction programme has been developed to help students accelerate their learning with a comprehensive introduction to academic life in Scotland. It starts prior to their arrival in September/January with a specially designed Welcome Pack.

Along with the challenges of a rigorous academic programme, international students are faced with integrating into a new country, culture and university. Hence, in addition to the support available to all students, the MBA programme team pays special attention to international MBA students by offering additional support and events throughout the year to assist them in getting to know Scotland, the Scottish education system and developing their English language skills for business situations.

The following additional support structures are in place for all MBA students to enable you to make the most of your academic career.

Personal Development Planning (PDP)

The MBA faculty are committed to the provision of an educational programme that meets the conceptual, professional and other developmental needs of managers. Therefore, alongside the acquisition of intellectual skills and knowledge, personal and professional development is of fundamental importance.  

Year Tutors

Year tutors provide additional academic support and specific advice about study on the MBA. These tutors are also up-to-date on the various professional services offered at the university; tutors are a valuable source of information and knowledge.

Effective Learning Service

The Effective Learning Service is a dedicated learning support facility aimed at improving students’ learning skills. Services provided are wide ranging from report and essay writing and presentation skills to motivation and time management and preparing for examinations. Supplementary English language classes are also available for international students.

Learner Support

Learner Support provides a range of services ranging from academic to personal issues, to help you while at university.  Learner Support Services are located in the Saltire Centre and can also be accessed online.

Careers Service

The Careers Service at Glasgow Caledonian University aims to provide quality, effective careers advice and information to empower students and graduates to make informed decisions about their careers, learning and continuing professional development.
