Teaching & Learning

Our Staff
The staff who teach on the Glasgow Caledonian MBA encompass both academic and industry experience across a range of disciplines. They are involved in a wide range of research and consultancy activities across the public, private and voluntary sector. These activities ensure that our programme is highly relevant to you and your employers.
Learning & Teaching methods
Progressing from theory to practice, from knowledge to experience, the MBA provides students with concrete learning experiences on which they can build a theoretical interpretation. We will stimulate your curiosity charging you to appraise new theories and consider their implications for your own beliefs and the management techniques. When you graduate you will have a sophisticated understanding of how to integrate theory into practice and the skills to continue exploring and reflecting on best practices throughout your career.
Active learning
The teaching staff enable you to meet the demanding objectives of this programme by moving you beyond passive and surface study to active and deep learning. Active and applied learning connects theory with practice, linking the world of the university with the ‘real world’ of work and management.
Peer learning
Group activities and collaborative learning capture the excitement and convey the practical worth of formal management theories. This programme includes small group discussions and projects, presentations and debates, peer critiques, simulations and cases, and activities that encourage groups of students to discuss and analyse in a supportive environment.
Assessment
The key to your success on the programme will be the ability to effectively manage your time both in your academic and professional life. Recognising the demands of your professional life, we have developed an integrated approach to teaching which carefully balances the workload across your modules. We have replaced the traditional academic dissertation with the more practical assignment in the Research Methods & Consultancy Project
MBA Handbook
The MBA module handbooks you will receive in your Welcome Pack will contain clear and detailed guidance on assessment requirements and marking criteria. Given the MBA’s commitment to high-quality learning, these are issues of fundamental importance.
Feedback/Feedforward
Assessment feedback/feedforward is an interactive, two-way process that helps lecturers to design better assessments and students to identify strengths and weakness in their learning. They are central to effective student learning. Timely feedback/feedforward enables the student to reflect and, where necessary, take corrective action. Its value is not limited to the marked assessment alone but contributes also to enhanced future performance. Feedback/feedforward methods will be discussed in more detail during the programme.
